welcome to the sunday market!

Set against the backdrop of the beloved Art in the Garden event, this addition promises a fusion of artisanal crafts, natural beauty, and community spirit.

Embark on a journey, where laughter, creativity, and a deep love for the land abound.

Join us in our lively open-air market from 10 am to 4 pm and witness artisans at work and play.

paul’s vision

This is an event Paul envisioned as a fusion of artisanal crafts, natural beauty, and community spirit. He approached Zoë and Ben at The Cordwood Folk School and they immediately jumped on board.

Now, with only a few weeks to go before the big event on Sunday, June 15th, market stalls are being built, installations that reflect the artist’s medium and meld with the land are going up, and each artist is working away to bring garden visitors their newest products.

what you’ll see

Six artisans and craftspeople, all connected to The Cordwood Folk School (located 15 minutes west of Perth), will be demonstrating their creative process.

You’ll hear the hammering, clinking, laughter and general hubbub of this open-air market well before you enter.

There will be a central area for visitors to sit, watch, eat lunch and take in the excitement of the artisans at work around them.

The featured trades are: hide tanning, basket weaving, felt making, blacksmithing, wood working, and stone cutting. All of these will be represented by knowledgeable professionals who will be happy to answer questions, and have a chat with passers by.

Come, step back in time, don your tunics, wimples, or petticoats, and dress for the occasion. You will feel right at home at The Medieval Market.

To learn more about The Cordwood Folk School, visit www.thecordwoodstudio.com or find them on social media @thecordwoodstudio. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

crafts Rooted in Medieval Times

Each of the participating artists’ crafts has roots in Medieval times. Some are older than that!

Watch Graham van Houten working at his coal forge, Jeff Ahier carving spoons, Ben Hendry cutting stone, Danielle Prophet softening hides, and Zoë Lianga felting rugs.

thank you!

“When people come to Art in the Garden, the simple abundance of Kiwi Gardens transforms into a magical event.

I would like to thank all of you for your support and for your appreciation of the art, artists, and gardens. For 28 years I’ve watched in wonder as this diverse community comes together for Art in the Garden, smiling and sharing the joyful pleasures of a day outside.

Fresh air, plants, people, music, art, and food make a great garden party … and by the way, the plants look so good with an audience.”
